UPS and FedEx have announced new pricing adjustments for 2027, drawing attention across the logistics and e-commerce industries. According to the report, UPS will introduce an average 5.9% rate increase for its Ground, Air and International services effective December 21, while FedEx will implement an average 5.9% increase beginning January 4, 2027. These changes reflect continued adjustments to parcel delivery pricing and are expected to affect shipping budgets for businesses of different sizes.
The announced changes include adjustments to several specific service fees. UPS will increase charges for certain small-business shipping services by 4.5%. FedEx will revise five key fee categories, including changes to the fees for reclassifying ZIP codes and adjustments to additional handling charges. The report states that the fee for reclassifying certain remote delivery areas will rise to $17.75, while additional handling charges for certain packages will increase by approximately 6.5%.
Other FedEx adjustments include raising the minimum charge for Ground services to $12.73 and increasing additional handling fees by 7% to 7.6%. The company will also introduce a $25 fee for paper-based document shipments and a $3 fee for certain residential deliveries. These changes highlight that the impact on shipping costs will depend not only on the general rate increase but also on package dimensions, delivery destinations, handling requirements and the services selected.
For e-commerce sellers, manufacturers and international logistics providers, the new pricing structures make it increasingly important to evaluate total transportation costs rather than relying solely on headline rate increases. Businesses shipping oversized, heavy or remote-area deliveries may face additional cost pressure as service-specific fees change. To manage expenses, shippers should review carrier pricing updates, compare applicable service options and confirm all relevant surcharges before dispatch. Careful cost planning will be essential for maintaining competitive shipping rates in 2027.
