Ocean Network Express (ONE) has announced plans to introduce an adjustment to its Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) for global container shipping services, effective August 15, 2026. The surcharge revision will apply to shipments across multiple trade routes as carriers continue to respond to rising operational costs and fluctuations in global energy markets.
According to the company’s announcement, the updated EFS will be implemented for both dry container and refrigerated container cargo. The adjustment covers major regions, including Asia, Europe, the Americas, and other international trade lanes, with specific rates varying according to route conditions and equipment types.
For standard dry containers, the revised surcharge will increase to approximately US$75 per TEU, while refrigerated containers will face a higher adjustment of around US$100 per TEU. The additional costs reflect increased expenses associated with fuel consumption, environmental compliance requirements, and overall maritime transportation operations.
Industry analysts noted that the latest surcharge adjustment may place additional cost pressure on global supply chains, particularly for manufacturers, retailers, and logistics providers managing long-distance ocean freight.
