Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading maritime hubs, ranking sixth globally in comprehensive shipping competitiveness, according to the latest Xinhua-Baltic International Shipping Center Development Index Report 2026. The achievement highlights the port’s continued growth in infrastructure, cargo capacity, and international connectivity.
The report noted that Ningbo-Zhoushan Port has maintained rapid development since entering the global top 23 shipping centers for the first time in 2015. Over the past decade, it has surpassed several major international ports, including Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Rotterdam, demonstrating its increasing influence in global maritime trade.
The port’s ranking improvement has been supported by its strong cargo handling capabilities, with annual container throughput exceeding 40 million TEUs. In addition, expanded China-Europe shipping routes, stronger financial support for maritime services, and improvements in shipping-related infrastructure have contributed to its enhanced competitiveness.
Industry analysts stated that Ningbo-Zhoushan Port’s continued advancement reflects China’s growing role in global logistics networks. As international trade patterns evolve, the port is expected to further strengthen its position as a key gateway connecting Asian manufacturing with global markets.
