latest company news about Major Ocean Carriers Announce June Freight Rate Increases on Europe-Bound Routes

Several leading global shipping lines, including CMA CGM, MSC, Maersk, and Hapag-Lloyd, have announced a new round of freight rate increases for Asia–Europe trade lanes beginning in June 2026. The adjustments mainly affect shipments bound for Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and North Africa, reflecting tightening vessel capacity and growing seasonal demand. Market participants are closely monitoring the impact on supply chain costs during the peak shipping season.

According to carrier notices, MSC's Mediterranean services will see FAK rates for 40-foot containers rise to approximately USD 6,500, while certain Algeria-bound routes may reach USD 8,900, with total logistics costs in some cases approaching USD 9,200 per container. Meanwhile, CMA CGM has introduced Peak Season Surcharges (PSS), adding USD 900 per 20-foot container and USD 1,800 per 40-foot container on selected Europe-bound services.

Maersk has also announced PSS adjustments for shipments from the Far East (excluding South Korea) to Northern Europe and Mediterranean destinations, with surcharges reaching USD 300 per 20-foot container and USD 600 per 40-foot container. Hapag-Lloyd has issued similar surcharge programs, increasing PSS fees by USD 500 for 20-foot containers and USD 1,000 for 40-foot containers on relevant trade routes. The coordinated pricing actions indicate a broader industry response to capacity constraints and operational cost pressures.

Industry analysts attribute the latest rate increases to strong cargo demand, limited vessel space availability, and rising operating expenses across major shipping networks. Exporters and importers are advised to secure bookings in advance, verify applicable surcharge structures, and carefully plan June and July shipping schedules. Proactive logistics planning will be essential for mitigating transportation cost volatility and maintaining supply chain efficiency during the upcoming peak season.
