Maersk’s Aliança to Shift Suape Container Volumes to APM Terminals in September 2026

Aliança Navegação e Logística, part of the Maersk Group, has announced that it will transfer its container volumes at Brazil’s Port of Suape from ICTSI-operated Tecon Suape to APM Terminals Suape, another terminal within the Maersk network. The change is scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2026, marking a significant adjustment to the carrier’s terminal strategy in northeastern Brazil.

Following the transition, Aliança is expected to operate three weekly services at APM Terminals Suape, strengthening the terminal’s role within Maersk’s regional logistics network. The move is also expected to reshape the competitive landscape at Suape, as shipping lines increasingly optimize terminal operations and concentrate cargo flows within strategically aligned port facilities.

Tecon Suape handled approximately 720,000 TEUs in 2025, according to the report. ICTSI estimates that the departure of Aliança’s volumes could reduce the terminal’s throughput by around 30% to 35%, potentially bringing annual container volumes down to approximately 450,000 TEUs. Such a decline could significantly affect the terminal’s operating efficiency and financial performance.

The development highlights the broader impact that carrier-terminal integration can have on port operations and cargo distribution. With Tecon Suape’s estimated break-even level at roughly 550,000 TEUs under its current operating structure, the anticipated volume reduction could put additional pressure on profitability, while APM Terminals Suape is positioned to capture a larger share of Aliança’s container business from September 2026.
