Maersk and CIMC Anda Shun Form Joint Venture to Strengthen Container Yard and Logistics Services in China

Maersk is moving to deepen its logistics presence in China through a new joint venture with CIMC Anda Shun International Logistics, a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers Group. According to a simplified merger-control case disclosed by Beijing’s market regulator, Maersk Logistics & Services (Hong Kong) Limited and CIMC Anda Shun Logistics Technology (Group) Co., Ltd. have signed an agreement to establish the jointly controlled company. The transaction highlights continued consolidation and strategic cooperation across China’s container shipping, freight forwarding and port logistics sectors.

Under the proposed ownership structure, Maersk’s Hong Kong logistics entity will hold a 51% stake, while CIMC Anda Shun will own the remaining 49%. The transaction is considered to constitute joint control under China’s Anti-Monopoly Law and has therefore entered the relevant regulatory review process. The new venture is expected to focus primarily on container yard services, supporting container storage, handling and related logistics operations while potentially developing a limited amount of international ocean freight forwarding business in the future.

The partnership brings together complementary logistics resources from both sides. Maersk contributes its global liner shipping network, port connections and integrated logistics capabilities, while CIMC Anda Shun provides container-yard resources around the Tianjin port area as well as an established domestic freight-forwarding network. By combining international carrier infrastructure with localized logistics operations, the venture could improve coordination between shipping lines, container yards, freight forwarders and cargo owners across key supply-chain nodes.

For importers, exporters and freight-forwarding customers, the cooperation reflects a broader shift toward increasingly integrated logistics services in China. Closer links between ocean carriers and local logistics providers may improve container circulation, yard efficiency and end-to-end shipment visibility while helping companies manage increasingly complex international supply chains. The joint venture also demonstrates how global shipping groups are expanding beyond traditional ocean transportation toward more comprehensive port, warehousing, forwarding and supply-chain solutions in major Chinese trade gateways.
