Maersk has announced adjustments to its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Far East–North Europe and Mediterranean shipping routes, reflecting ongoing changes in global trade demand and operational costs. The revised surcharge policy will take effect from July 22, 2026, for cargo originating outside Korea, while shipments from Korea will follow the updated pricing from August 1, 2026. The adjustment applies to various container types across key Asia-Europe trade lanes.
According to Maersk’s announcement, the updated PSS structure will introduce different surcharge levels based on container size and origin. For shipments from regions outside Korea, the surcharge for 20-foot dry containers will be USD 500, while 40-foot and 45-foot containers will be charged USD 1,000. For cargo originating from Korea, the same container categories will follow a different pricing standard under the revised policy.
The company stated that the surcharge adjustment is part of its regular capacity and cost management strategy, designed to maintain stable service quality while responding to seasonal market fluctuations. As global supply chains continue to face uncertainties from changing demand patterns, operational expenses, and vessel deployment requirements, carriers are closely monitoring market conditions and adjusting commercial policies accordingly.
Industry analysts believe that the latest PSS update may influence transportation costs for exporters and importers using Far East–Europe trade routes. Businesses engaged in Asia-Europe shipping are advised to evaluate upcoming shipment plans, optimize booking schedules, and communicate with logistics partners in advance to better manage potential cost changes and maintain supply chain efficiency.
