latest company news about COSCO Hope Suffers Cargo Incident During Loading Operations at Port of Spain

A container handling incident involving the vessel COSCO Hope occurred at the Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago during cargo operations at DP World’s terminal. According to preliminary reports, four containers stacked together collapsed unexpectedly while being loaded onto the vessel, causing damage to hatch covers and resulting in a minor spill of approximately 80–100 liters of a water-based compound.

Port emergency response teams acted promptly to contain the spill and secure the affected area. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported, and other terminal operations continued without significant disruption. The rapid response helped prevent further environmental impact and ensured the safety of personnel and surrounding facilities.

The vessel, with a capacity of approximately 13,100 TEU, is owned by Seascape Corporation and operated by COSCO Shipping. COSCO Hope is deployed on the Trans-Atlantic service connecting Europe and the Americas. At the time of the incident, the ship was conducting routine cargo loading activities as part of its scheduled voyage.

Following a comprehensive safety assessment and cleanup operation, the vessel was cleared to resume normal operations. Reports indicate that COSCO Hope departed the port as scheduled on June 10 after receiving the necessary approvals. Industry observers note that the incident highlights the importance of strict cargo securing procedures and operational safety standards in modern container shipping.
